Bay Life Tips for Seabrook and Kemah Parents

Seabrook sits on Galveston Bay where it meets Clear Lake, and most of the city's area is actually water. Kemah lines the west shore of the bay and is home to the Kemah Boardwalk and its rides. Living this close to the water brings its own kind of urgent care visit: cuts from shells and docks, swimmer's ear, sunburn and the occasional tumble on the boardwalk.

Protect cuts from bay water. The CDC advises anyone with an open wound to stay out of salt water and brackish water when possible, or to cover the wound with a waterproof bandage. If a cut does get wet, wash it well with soap and clean running water right away. A wound that turns red, swollen, warm or very painful needs to be checked quickly.

School forms. Both cities are in Clear Creek ISD, and high schoolers from both are zoned to Clear Falls High School in League City. We handle sports and school physicals for Clear Falls students and for younger kids at Seabrook Intermediate or Bayside Intermediate. Bring the required form along.

Go to the ER or call 911 if:

  • Someone was pulled from the water and is coughing hard, struggling to breathe or acting confused
  • A cut becomes red, swollen and very painful within hours of bay water contact, especially with fever or blisters
  • A baby younger than 3 months has a temperature of 100.4°F or higher
  • Bleeding will not stop after 10 minutes of firm pressure
  • There may be a head or neck injury from a dive or fall. Do not move the person
  • Anyone has a seizure or is very hard to wake
